Barak - Peace Deal Still Possible

April 30, 2009
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Israel can reach a peace deal with the Palestinians within the next three years. Barak said Israel's PM, Benjamin Netanyahu, would propose a plan to the US "in line with the principle of "two states for two nations". Mr Netanyahu has refused to back the principle of Palestinian statehood because his government says it is still deciding, but its foreign minister has said the peace process is a "dead end". "When a political settlement is signed with all the neighbors, it will stipulate a Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel, with the two living side by side" (Ehud Barak). To my understanding, the new belief between Israel and Palestine is that the only hope of their peace is if the entire territory (Not just those two countries, but all around it) becomes peaceful.
